Welcome to Katmai National Monument.  

Park History: In 1908 Katmai National Monument was established to help protect the 40 square mile Valley of Ten Thousand Smokes. The Valley of Ten Thousand Smokes consists of 100 to 700 foot deep ash flow deposited by Novarupta Volcano. In 1980 it was promoted to National Park Status.
