Alaska State Parks

Welcome to Alaska's Captain Cook State Recreation Area. Long before the first European settlers arrived in the region this was big hunting and fishing ground for the Taniana Native American tribe. The park is named for English explorer Captain James Cook who explored the region in the late 18th century.

Wildlife: Some of the resident wildlife include moose, bears, wolves, coyotes, sandhill cranes, trumpeter swans, harbor seals, and bald eagles. Please treat their home with respect when visiting.
