Welcome to one of the largest urban land preserves in the United States, the grand and beautiful Monte Sano Nature Preserve in Huntsville, Alabama.
Picknicking: The Preserve's Bankhead Pavilion has a 50 person capacity and 1 grill. One will naturally be hungry after exploring the preserve's trails.
Trails: Monte Sano Nature Preserve has over 25 miles of hiking and mountain biking trails just waiting to be explored.
The Old Railroad Ben Trail is 1.7 miles long and is located on the site of one of the oldest and shortest lived rail corridors in the United States, the Monte Sano Railway. One will see waterfalls while exploring this trail.
The High Trail is 3.33 Miles Long and is a bit of a challenge. While hiking this trail one can see the remains of the old Monte Sano Hotel.
The Bluff Line Trail is 2.63 miles long and is considered to be moderately difficult.
The Wildflower Trail is 0.58 miles long and really lives up to it's name in the spring when the flowers are blooming.
The Three Caves Loop is a quarter mile circle around an old Limestone Quarry.
The Alms House Trail is 1.76 miles long and goes through some scenic areas of the forest where one will some some springs and rock formations.
The Waterline Trail is a challening 0.76 mile trail that has some steep sections that are only recommended for experienced hikers. Hiking alone is highly discouraged on this trail.
The Oak Park Trail is a moderately difficult trail that is just under a mile long.
The Trough Springs Trail is a moderately difficult 1.34 mile long trail that passes through some old growth forest. A hiking pole and trail map are highly recommended.
Trailheads are located at the following addresses; 506 Cleermont Drive SE, 2250 Oakwood Avenue, 1970 Monte Sano Boulevard, and 901 Kennamer Drive.
