Tweedsmuir South Provincial Park
The beautiful Tweedsmuir South Provincial Park is one of the largest provincial parks in British Columbia, at over a million and a quarter acres. The park itself was first established in 1938 and named after 15th Governor General of Canada John Buchan who was also known as the Baron Tweedsmuir of Elsfield. The park was a place he frequently visited and enjoyed.
Some of the park's resident wildlife include moose, caribou, mountain goats, grizzly bears, black bears, and many others. Many anglers come here to catch cutthroat trout, mountain whitefish, and several types of salmon. Please treat their home with respect when visiting.
There are many miles of hiking trails for the visitor and some of these trails are challenging so please be prepared. The Crystal Lake Trail has an elevation gain of 1000 meters. During the winter there are many trails open to cross-country skiing.
