Welcome to Carbon Canyon Regional Park!

Park History: In the late 19th Century a segment of the Santa Fe Railroad was built in the Orange County Region and sparked a land boom. Much of the land that is now Carbon Canyon Regional Park was settled by farmers and ranchers who raised sheep and cattle. The discovery of oil in the 1880's brought many drilling companies into the Orange County foothills. Many oil towns, including Olinda were established, and the companies owned all the land, homes, and stores in the towns. Olinda thrived as an oil town until the 1940's.

As Orange County grew more and more residents became concerned about the dangers posed by flooding. Carbon Canyon was a source of flood damage and a dam was built from 1959-1965. The area upstream from the dam was made into a public park in 1975. This park boasts numerous recreational opportunities. Come on out and explore!
