Eldorado National Forest
Welcome to the Eldorado National Forest located in the central Sierra Nevada Range of northern California and spanning across four counties. For the lover of the outdoors the Eldorado National Forest boasts over 300 miles of multipurpose trails, 611 miles of fishable rivers, and the Kirkwood and Sierra at Tahoe ski resorts. All of these things are located 3-4 hours from the Bay Area and 1-1.5 hours from the State Capitol. Come on out and explore.
The Eldorado National Forest has a Mediterranean type climate of cold, wet winters and warm, dry summers. Precipitation averages from 40-70 inches each year making water a major resource of the forest. Elevations range from as low as 1,000 feet ASL in the foothills to as high as 10,000 feet ASL in the mountaintops. The Rubicon, American, Cosumnes, and Mokelumne Rivers carve out canyons in the Eldorado National forest as they journey from the mountains to the sea.
Flora and Fauna: At neatly 800,000 acres in size, it comes as no surprise that the Eldorado National Forest is home to numerous plant and animal species. Some of the plants that grow inside the forest boundaries include Doulgas firs, ponderosa pines, incense cedars, white firs, red firs, and many others. Some of the wild critters who call this place home include deer, bears, squirrels, mountain lions, and many others. Please treat their home with respect.
