Aside from it's beautiful cliff and beach scenery and numerous aquatic opportunities, Point Dume State Beach also serves as a great place for whale-watching from December through April. This place has a long human history from being a sacred place for Native Americans to being a training ground for the Army during World War II in more recent times. Over half of this park was designated a State Natural Preserve in 1992. It makes a great birding destination where one can hope to see brown pelicans, hawks, falcons, and many others. To make reservations of any facility please call 310-457-8114.

This was RecPlanet place of the day on January 27, 2017.
