Happy Camp Canyon Regional Park is located in the mountains just outside of Moorpark, California. With multiple trails that range from easy to challenging, this park has everything you need. There are 12.5 miles of trails and 3,000 acres for hikers, bikers, and equestrians to explore. The trails are spacious and mostly flat, making them perfect for outdoor activities.
Be sure to keep your eye out for the natural “benches” in the southern slopes of the park as well. The benches are sedimentary carvings left as a result of the old rivers of Arroyo Simi and Las Posas Creek. Historically, Chumash Indians occupied the land, and it later was used for cattle. There are still remnants of ranch life, explaining the presence of water troughs, tanks, and fences!
Be sure to bring plenty of water, sunscreen, and snacks. Also, note that dogs aren’t allowed past the entrance gate due to the sensitive habitat.
Wildlife: Happy Camp Canyon Regional Park helps protect the home of several wild animals including deer, raccoons, squirrels, bobcats, rabbits, and golden eagles. Please treat their home with respect when visiting.
