Two Ponds National Wildlife Refuge
Welcome to Two Ponds National Wildlife Refuge, an oasis of upland habitats and wetlands located in suburban Denver. This is a popular field trip destination for school children in the Denver area.
Refuge History: The land that is now Two Ponds National Wildlife Refuge was once dominated by high plains shortgrass and mixed-grass prairies. When European settlers arrived many of the plant and animal communities were altered and in more recent years suburban development brought threats to this land. In 1990 local citizens grouped together in order to help protect this land from development and in 1992 Two Ponds National Wildlife Refuge was established.
Wildlife: Two Ponds National Wildlife Refuge helps protect the home of numerous wild critters including coyotes, foxes, raccoons, beavers, deer, frogs, turtles, and over 120 bird species. Please treat their home with respect.
For the lover of the outdoors this refuge boasts numerous trails and wildlife viewing opportunities. Come on out and explore.
