Horsetooth Mountain Open Space
Welcome to Horsetooth Mountain Open Space located just 4 miles from Fort Collins and 12 miles from Loveland just west of the Horsetooth Reservoir. This is a large regional park with elevation ranges from 5,430 feet to 7,255 feet.
Park History: There is an old legend passed down that Horsetooth Rock is the remains of the heart of an evil giant who was destroyed by Native American Chief Maununmoku who was trying to protect his people from the giant. Today the park offers long and strenuous hikes with breathtaking views of Fort Collins to the East and the Rocky Mountains to the West. The park's trails are multi-purpose and I the founder of RecPlanet hiked them myself in August 2007 and took the picture that you can see below.. Come on out and have a blast!
