Welcome to Eleven Mile State Park established in 1970. Located at an elevation of 8600 feet in the region of South Park Colorado (Not to be confused with the TV show) Eleven Mile State Park borders the Pike National Forest on two sides.
Park History: Archeological discoveries tell us that the human history of Eleven Mile State Park and it's surrounding region dates back over 12,000 years ago and included people of the Folsom, Plano, Archaic, and Woodland Cultures. About 1,000 years ago, the Ute tribe arrived in the region and stayed for many centuries and hunted the wildlife. Some of the first Europeans to arrive in the region were Spanish and French explorers who came in the 16th century searching for Gold. In 1806, President Thomas Jefferson sent Lt. Zebulon Pike (After whom Pikes Peak and the Pike National Forest are named) to explore the region. Pike made a failed attempt to reach the summit of Pike's peak and then ventured west through South Park. In 1859, the gold rush sparked a mining boom in this area and the Utes were forced out. Aside from mining, ranching and logging also became common survival methods in the region. In the 1860's the town of Fairplay, which is the present seat of Pike County, was established. In 1887, the railroads came through and in 1932, the reservoir was completed. Eleven Mile State Park was established in 1960.
