Welcome to Rocky Mountain National Park nestled in the majestic Colorado Rockies just west of Fort Collins.
Park History: In 1915 Congress passed the legislation that established Rocky Mountain National Park. Over the years, the National Park Service purchased additional lands, and removed roads, fences, and buildings inside the park's boundaries. After World War II more and more Americans began visiting the nation's public lands and Rocky Mountain National Park was no exception. The National Park Service responded to this new pressure by implementing Mission 66 in order to help modernize the park's antiquated facilities. For Rocky Mountain National Park, Mission 66 brought new overlooks, employee housing, campgrounds, and visitor centers.
Flora and Fauna: Rocky Mountain National Park, with it's towering peaks, lush forests, 150 lakes, and over 450 miles of streams helps protect the home of numerous plant and animals species. Some of the plants that grow inside the park boundaries include aspens, pines, spruces, firs, goldenrods, and columbines. Some of the wild animals who call this place home include bighorn sheep, black bears, moose, mountain lions, beavers, elk, marmots, squirrels, chipmunks, bald eagles, and pygmy owls. In 2000, Rocky Mountain National Park was designated as a globally important bird area. Please treat their home with respect.
