Welcome to Connecticut's Hopeville Pond State Park.

Park History: The land that is now Hopeville Pond State Park was a big fishing ground for the Mohegan Native American tribe long before the first white men ever entered the region. Some of the stone weirs that the Mohegan's built for fishing are still visible inside the park today. Once white settlers did enter the region they began building villages and a man named Stephen Gates built a cornmill and sawmill at the waterfall on this land (no longer in existence due to the reservoir). A man named Elizah Abel purchased the land from Gates and constructed a woolen mill on the site. A man named John Slater purchased the mill from Abel and built a satinet mill which he named the Hope Mill. This is what lead to the name Hopeville. The park came into existence during the 1930's when Civilian Conservation Corps workers helped to build the park's amenities.

For the lover of the outdoors this park boasts multipurpose trails, campsites, boating and swimming opportunities, and much more. Come on out and have fun.
