Hickey's Creek Mitigation Park is a beautiful Lee County nature preserve located in Alva, Florida. The first 770 acres of land for this preserve were purchased in 1994 with help from both Lee County and the State of Florida. Additional tracts were purchased with the Conservation 20/20 fund bringing the park to it's present day size of 862 acres. This preserve of pine flatwoods, oak-palm forests, hardwood hammocks, and wetlands helps protect the home of numerous wild creatures including the endangered Florida Panther, American alligators, bobcats, gopher tortoises, raccoons, ospreys, and many others. For the recreational enthusiast this park has over five miles of hiking trails, canoe launches where one can access the Great Calusa Blueway Paddling Trail, picnic tables, awesome bird-watching opportunities, and much more. Come out and explore!
