Florida State Parks

Welcome to Florida's beautiful De Leon Springs State Park. These springs are 72 degrees farenheit year round and produce around 19 milliion gallons a day. It's a fantastic place for snorkeling and people can rent non-motorized watercraft. The paddling trail leads up to nearby Lake Woodruff National Wildlife Refuge. One of the park's more unique features is a 600 year old cypress tree.

Park History: Some of the first known human inhabitants of this region arrived over 6,000 years ago and included people of the Mayaca Culture. One of the first Europeans to visit this region was Pedro Menendez who arrived in the 16th century and founded the city of Saint Augustine. In 1832 the first water powered sugar mill in Florida was built here but both the original mill and it's replacement were destroyed in wars. By the late 19th century steamboats and railroads had helped make the area into a tourist attraction but it was not until 1982 that it finally became a state park.
