Island Bay National Wildlife Refuge
Welcome to Island Bay National Wildlife Refuge located off the coast of southwest Florida near Sanibel.
Refuge History: Long before the arrival of the first European settlers the land that is now Island Bay National Wildlife Refuge was occupied by the Calusa tribe for many centuries. Some of the mounds they build are still standing inside the refuge boundaries. Wildlife: Island Bay National Wildlife Refuge helps protect the home of numerous wild animals including raccoons, West Indian Manatees, ospreys, and pelicans. Please treat their home with respect.
Due to the fragility of this ecosystem Island Bay National Wildlife Refuge is not open to the public.
