Wakulla State Forest
Welcome to Wakulla State Forest located near the Florida State Capitol and the Apalachicola National Forest.
Forest History: Most of the land that is now Wakulla State Forest was purchased by the State of Florida from the St. Joe Corporation in the early 21st century. The funds used to make the purchase came from the Florida Forever Fund and the Conservation and Recreation Lands fund. The primary reason for establishing this forest was to protect the water quality of nearby Wakulla Springs. There was a time when Wakulla State Forest supported over eight major community types including floodplain swamps, hydric hammocks, dome swamps, and depression marshes.
Today it is mostly pine forest. Some of the wild animals who call this place home include squirrels, white-tailed deer, and gopher tortoises. Please treat their home with respect.
For the lover of the outdoors Wakulla State Forest boasts miles of multipurpose trails, a picnic pavilion, and so much more. Come on out and have a blast!
