Georgia is a state that is full of Civil War History, and Fort McAllister State Park is certainly no exception. Located on the banks of the Ogeechee River in Fort Richmond not far from the Georgia coast, it was here where General Sherman's "March to the Sea" officially came to an end in 1864. Today one can come out and see the beautiful 1860's Confederate Ford and learn a little history. Many people are drawn here by the ancient oaks an the Spanish moss.

Camping and Lodging: Fort McAllister State Park boasts 56 tent and trailer campsites. For those who prefer to stay indoors there are 7 cottages. Come out and stay a few nights.
