Welcome to Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park, a place of Civil War History.

Park History: During the Civil War the Confederate and Union Forces fought over control of the City of Chattanooga, which was considered at the time to be the "Gateway to the Deep South." This park is the scene of the last Major victory for the Confederate Army when they obtained control of the City in September of 1863 under the command of General Braxton Bragg. However, two months later the Union forces led by General William Rosecrans started a new fight that would lead them to victory over the Confederate forces and give the Union control of the City of Chattanooga. These battles were some of the hardest fought in the war. This land became a National Park in 1933 and boasts over 1400 monuments.

For the lover of the outdoors Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park boasts over 40 miles of multipurpose trails and beautiful scenery. Come on out and explore!
