Hakalau Forest National Wildlife Refuge
Welcome to Hakalau Forest National Wildlife Refuge located on Hawaii's main island. This refuge ranges in elevation from as low as 2,000 feet ASL and as high as 6,600 feet ASL and helps protect one of the most pristine remaining stands of native montane rainforest in the State of Hawaii.
Flora and Fauna: Hakalau Forest National Wildlife Refuge helps protect the home of numerous plant and animals species. Some of the plants that grow inside the refuge boundaries include koa trees, red-blossomed ohi'a trees, and Hawaiian honeycreepers such as the 'i'iwi, 'apapane, and 'amakihi. Some of the wild animals who call this place home include the Hawaiian short-eared owl and the Eurasian skylark. Please treat their home with respect.
