Welcome to the beautiful MacRae Park located on the banks of the Raccoon River in Des Moines, Iowa. This is one of the older parks in the city, having been first established in the late 19th century. This park helps to protect one of the last standing savannas in the State of Iowa. Some of it's other features include two tennis courts, the magnificent MacRae fountain, a picnic shelter with grills that can be reserved for banquets, parties, and other events, and an outstanding view of the Des Moines skyline. This was RecPlanet place of the day on February 28, 2015.

*Conducting any organized event in any city park requires that one obtain special permission from the city.
*The following are all prohibited; consumption of alcoholic beverages, glass objects, littering, burning (except for picnic grills), defacing public property.
*All parks open at 6 a.m. and close 30 minutes past dusk.
*The following activities are only allowed in designated areas; boating, flying remote-controlled aircraft, golfing, swimming.
