Welcome to Martin Luther King Jr. Park located in Des Moines, Iowa. This urban park is named after the great civil rights leader the Reverend Martin Luther King Jr. King led thousands of people in the battle against wrongful descrimination and died a great hero. One of the more unique features of this park is it's geothermally heated and cooled recreation center which first opened in April 2009.
When visiting any park in Des Moines, Iowa please respect the rules.
*Conducting any organized event in any city park requires that one obtain special permission from the city. *Consumption of alcoholic beverages is strictly forbidden in any city park.
*All burning is restricted to BBQ grills.
*Please respect all park property including buildings, fences, animals, and plants.
*For the safety of other park users, all glass objects are prohibited.
*No littering, please place all trash in proper containers, they are there for a reason. Please help keep Des Moines City Parks clean.
*All parks open at 6 a.m. and close 30 minutes past dusk.
*The following activities are only allowed in designated areas; boating, flying remote-controlled aircraft, golfing, swimming.
