Welcome to Boise's Esther Simplot Park. This new city park is named after a native of Wisconsin, a magna cum laude graduate of Indiana University, a wife of an industrialist, and a big promoter of the arts, Esther Simplot. After graduating from college she moved to New York City where she performed as a singer with the World's Far, Carnegie Recital Hall, Canterbury Choral, and Riverside Church Choir. in 1972 she and her husband J.R. Simplot moved to Boise, Idaho. In 1992, 20 years after she first moved to Boise, she became co-foudner of the Boise Opera Company and in 1996 she helped build the Esther Simplot Performing Arts Academy. The purchase of the first tract of land for this park was made possible from a generous $1 million dollar donation from the Simplots to the City of Boise.
