Welcome to Julia Davis Park, a place that is considered to be the cultural and historic heart of Boise, Idaho. This park boasts the City Zoo and three museums.
Park History: This park is named after Julia McCrumb Davis, a Canadian woman who moved to the Boise area in 1869 and met her future husband Tom Davis, who had ventured out west with his brother Frank and 75 other men in a gold rush. Tom Davis was one of the larger landowners in the region and did a lot of work in Boise's early urban planning stages. Tom and Julia married and had six children. In 1907 Julia died of typhoid fever and Tom donated 87 acres of his land to the City of Boise to be used as a public park in memory of his wife. Julia was well known and respected for her kindness and hospitality. Several travelers of the Oregon Trail received her assistance in Boise.
Today Julia Davis Park boasts a statue of Julia Davis, another statue of Abraham Lincoln, the Cancer Survivor's Plaza and the Childhood Canver Pavilion. Some of it's recreational facilities include six tennis courts, sixteen horseshoe pits, a playground for the kids, and much more. It is also a popular destination for local bird-watchers. Come on out and have fun.
