Welcome to Idaho's majestic Clearwater National Forest sprawling across the Bitterroot Mountains, and the Palouse Prairie. Forest History: For many centuries, the land that is now Clearwater National Forest was occupied by members of the Nez Perce tribe. Some of the first Europeans to visit the region included members of the Lewis and Clark Expedition in 1805. Wildlife: The Clearwater National Forest helps protect the home of numerous wild critters including black bears, wolves, mountain lions, moose, deer, and many others. Please treat their home with respect. For the lover of the outdoors Clearwater National Forest boasts miles of multipurpose trails, many mountains to climb, and so much more.
