Sielbeck Forest State Natural Area
Welcome to Sielbeck Forest State Natural Area, a wetland oasis located in southern Illinois near Belknap.
Preserve History: This land was owned and cared for by the family of Ruth and Louie Sielbeck for nearly a century. In 1997, the land was put up for auction and the Nature Conservancy was the highest bidder who ended up buying the land and selling it to the State of Illinois. The nearly 400 acre preserve gives visitors an idea as to what the surrounding lands looked like at the turn of the 19th century.
Flora and Fauna: This preserve protects the habitat of numerous species of plants and animals. Some of the preserve's plants include cypress, sweetgums, and pin oaks. Some of the preserve's animals include wild turkey's, ducks, deer, squirrels, and many others. Please treat their home with respect.
For the lover of the outdoors this place is a popular angler's destination. Foot travel is allowed but there are not designated trails. Come on out and explore.
