Welcome to Austin Park located in Chicago, Illinois. The history of this park goes back to the 19th century when a man named Henry W. Austin built a small community known as Austinville. In 1885 Mr. and Mrs. Austin donated some land to the Town of Cicero for use as a public park. In 1899 the town of Cicero became part of the City of Chicago and the Chicago Park district took over management of this urban playground. For many decades in the first half of the 20th century there were lagoons in the park that were used for swimming in the summer and ice-skating in the winter. Eventually the lagoons were filled in and one of them was transformed into a sprayground and wading pool. A new playground was added as recently as 1992.
