Welcome to Chicago's Barrett Park located in the lower west side. This park was first established in the early 20th century back when a lot of European immigrants were arriving in the lower west side of Chicago. At the time, the land was leased out as a park by a social welfare house known as the Gad's Center before the City of Chicago took over the lease in 1907. The City of Chicago named the park after local pediatrician Dr. Walter Christopher in 1910 for his service to his young patients throughout his long career.

In 1926, the City of Chicago officially took ownership of the land and two years later it was renamed in honor of Charles Barrett, a local citizen who attend the University of Illinois School of Law and was an active member in the local chaper of the Republican Party. Barrett was also very active in his community and helped many kids to go out for team sports. Over the years the park has received many improvements and today it boasts a basketball court, a soccer field, and a playground for the kids. Come on out and have fun.
