Welcome to Chicago's Chase Park!

Park History: The land that is now chase park was once Gunther Park, the home of the Niesen-Gunther baseball team that was first established in 1905. In 1913, while the world famous Wrigley Field was under construction, Gunther Park went out of business. The idea of the land becoming a local park was first conceived in 1914 and after several years of petitioning to the Lincoln Park district the idea became a reality in 1920. Over the years many amenities were added.

Like all the parks created by the Lincoln Park commission, Chase Park was named for a member of President Lincoln's Cabinet, Salmon P. Chase, who served as Lincoln's Secretary of the Treasury and was later appointed by Lincoln as a Justice to the Supreme Court. Chase was strongly anti-slavery and as Chief Justice of the Supreme Court he appointed the nation's first African American lawyer to argue before the court, John Rock. Salmon P. Chase was also on the $10,000 bill.

Today this park is popular with both the youth as well as adult sports leagues. Come on out and have fun.
