Welcome to Chicago's Hubbard Playlot Park located in the Austin Community. Located on a piece of land that was formerly owned by the local board of Education, this land was first developed as a local playground and was finally transferred to the Chicago Park District in 1989. The park itself is named for one of the more notable residents of Chicago's history, Gurdon Hubbard, also known as Papamatabe or "Swift Walker" by the local Native American tribes he did business with while working for the John Jacob Astor Fur Trading Company. Hubbard became a wealthy and powerful individual before losing most of his posessions in the great Chicago Fire of 1871. Today this park boasts a basketball court and a playground for the residents and visitors of Chicago.
