Welcome to Chicago's Humboldt Park. The story of Humboldt Park dates all the way back to 1869, just two years before the Great Chicago Fire, back when the West Park System was first established. Local residents requested that the Park District name the northernmost park for the German scientist Alexander Von Humboldt, and their wish was granted. William LeBaron Jenny, most famously known as "the father of the skyscraper" helped out a lot with the park's design by using a French style that he learned while studying abroad in Paris. Another man who played a big role in designing Humboldt Park was a Danish immigrant by the name of Jens Jensen who used a prairie style. In 1928, locally renowned architects Rognstad and Michaelsen built the park's fieldhouse and in 1934, Humboldt Park fell under new jurisction when the West Park District and all the other smaller districts merged with the Chicago Park District. Today this beautiful park offers many opportunities for the residents and visitors of Chicago. Come on out and have a blast! The tennis courts are lighted and thus allow for night games.
