Welcome to Chicago's Lawler Park. This park has it's roots in the 1940's when the Lawler Park Subdivision was built. 6.2 acres of land were set aside to be made into a park in 1947 and after 3 years of hard work "Leamington Park" (as it was called at the time) was ready to go with a brand new sandbox and playground. In 1958 the park district built new athletic courts and a recreation building and renamed the park after the same man for whom the local subdivision and a local street were named, General Michael Lawler, an Irish-American veteran who served in the Mexican-American War and the Civil War. Additional improvements and renovations occured in the 1980's, and 1990's. Today this park has much to offer to Chicago's residents and visitors. Come on out and have fun.
