Chicago's Meyering Playground Park was first established in 1926 and received many new additions over the decades. For many years it was operated by the local school board but eventually the Chicago Parks and Recreation Department assumed management of the land. The park itself is named for William Meyering, a local one-armed World War I Veteran who served as 8th ward Alderman from 1923 until 1930.

Today this park offers numerous recreational and after school programs including kickboxing and Brazilian martial arts. Many of the park's facilities can be reserved by calling 312-747-6545.
