Welcome to William W. Powers State Recreation Area located on the shores of Wolf Lake near the Illinois/Indiana State Line in Chicago.

Park History: It is unknown exactly how Wolf Lake got it's name. Some say it was the name of a Native American Chief who once lived in the region and others say that wolves were numerous in the region many years ago. The land itself was purchased by the State of Illinois in 1947 and was known as the Wolf Lake State Recreation Area until the name was changed in 1965 in memory of State Legislator William W. Powers.

For the lover of the outdoors this park allows for boats 10HP and under and boasts a lake stocked with bass, carp, walleye, perch, northern pike and others. Come on out and explore.

To contact the office please call 773-646-3270.
