Weldon Springs State Park

Welcome to Weldon Springs State Park located in DeWitt County near Clinton.  

Park History: Before the American Civil War the land that is now Weldon Springs State Park was purchased by Judge Lawrence Weldon who opened up the site to local residents and youth clubs for use as picnic grounds. At the end of the 19th Century Judge Weldon leased the company to the Weldon Springs Company and money was raised to build a boathouse, dam, bridges, trails, a diving platform, a bathhouse, and an auditorium.

Throughout the first two decades of the 20th Century local residents used to come to the site to listen to some of the best contemporary public speakers and entertainers. Many political debates and speeches were held here and some of the people who came included President Taft, Vice Presidents Sherman and Stevenson, and numerous other elected officials. The Springs themselves date back millions of years to a river of the Paleozoic Age known as the Teays River. The site became a State Park in 1948.  

For the lover of the outdoors this park boasts over 75 campsites  with electrical hookups and miles of multipurpose trails. Come on out and explore.
