Welcome to Saline County State Fish and Wildlife Area located in southeastern Illinois near the town of Equality.

Preserve History: The region that is now Saline County State Fish and Wildlife Area has a history in salt quarrying. In 1803 the local tribes ceded their Salt Springs to the United States. The land was owned by the United States government and though Congress refused to put the land up for the sale they did agree to leasing the land. In 1818, Congress gave the salines to the State of Illinois but still kept the land in Federal holdings until finally agreeing to sell in 1820. In 1959, the State of Illinois purchased the land and Saline County State Fish and Wildlife Area was established.

For the lover of the outdoors, this preserve boasts miles of multipurpose trails, campsites, and the Glen O. Jones lake stocked with catfish, bass, crappie, redear, and bluegill. Come on out and explore.
