Marshall State Fish and Wildlife Area
Welcome to the Marshall State Fish and Wildlife Area located along the banks of the Illinois River near Lacon, Illinois.
Preserve History: The first parcels of land were purchased by the State of Illinois in 1925. Today the preserve is over 6,000 acres in size and half of the acreage is dry land and the other half water.
Flora and Fauna: This preserve protects the home of numerous species of plants and animals. Some of the preserve's plant species include silver maples, cottonwoods, oaks, hickories, and several species of wildflower. Some of the parks animals include flying squirrels, rabbits, beavers, herons, and deer. Please treat their home with respect.
For the lover of the outdoors this preserve boasts a 3.5 mile multipurpose trail, fishing on the Illinois River (catfish, bass, bluegill, and crappie), and several campgrounds and picnic facilities. Come on out and have a blast!
