Preserve History: In the 1930's, while the United States was feeling the pinches of the Great Depression, the land that is now McDowell Grove Forest Preserve was the site of a work camp for the Civilian Conservation Corps. The CCC built bridges a boathouse, picnic areas, trails, and a dam made of limestone. During World War II this land was used as a secret installation site for the development of radar technology. In 1946, the U.S. Government sold the land to DuPage County and McDowell Grove Forest Preserve was established.
