Welcome to the Washington County State Recreation Area, a 1,440 acre preserve of fields and pine forests located in southern Illinois near Nashville.

Preserve History: The first 160 acres of land were purchased by the State of Illinois in 1959 and additional tracts were purchased over the years to bring the preserve to it's current size of 1,440 acres. Today it is a popular destination for outdoorsmen and nature lovers and is home to many wild critters including deer, rabbits, squirrels, doves, and quails. Please treat their home with respect.

For the lover of the outdoors Washington County State Recreation Area boasts miles of hiking trails, the 248 acre Washington County Lake with 13 miles of shoreline, two boat ramps, seven picnic areas, and a campground. Come on out and have fun.
