Fullersburg Woods Forest Preserve
Welcome to Fullersburg Woods Forest Preserve located in Oak Brook, Illinois.
Preserve History: Fullersburg Woods Forest Preserve, first founded in 1920, boasts a rich history. During The Great Depression in the 1930's the Civilian Conservation Corps established a work camp here and helps build several of the preserve's amenities. In 1969 the preserve was overused and picnicking was restricted and boating prohibited due to the spilling of raw sewage in Salt Creek. The Forest Preserve District made plans to help restore Fullersburg Woods Forest Preserve, control flooding, and provide environmental education opportunities. As a result of their efforts the water quality of Salt Creek has improved dramatically and vegetation is thriving.
For the lover of the outdoors this preserve boasts a 1.3 mile multipurpose trail, the Graue Mill Historic Site with an old mill over a century in age that is now a National Historic Landmark, a creek stocked with bass, bluegill, pike, walleye, and catfish (must have license if you are 16 years of age or older), several picnic tables, and so much more. Come on out and explore.
