Horseshoe Lake State Fish and Wildlife Area
Welcome to the Horseshoe Lake State Fish and Wildlife Area. This swampy preserve is dotted with cypress, gum, and cottonwood trees.
Preserve History: This land was purchased by the State of Illinois in 1927 in order to serve as a sanctuary for Canadian Geese. Today, thousands of geese pass through the preserve each year. Horseshoe Lake itself boasts over 20 miles of shoreline. For the lover the outdoors this preserve offers dozens of campsites and several picnic areas. Come on out and explore.
