Welcome to Beaver Dam State Park, a hickory oak woodland located near Plainview, Illinois.

Park History: In the late 19th century, 18 men from Carlinville built two dams on the lake in order to make it deeper, and formed the Beaver Dam Lake Club which attracted many anglers, boaters, and picnickers to Beaver Dam Lake. The land was soon owned by a Sarah Rhodes who built a small hotel (Present Day Ranger House) inside the park. The advent of the automobile put Sarah Rhodes out of business and in 1947 the first 425 acres of Beaver Dam State Park were purchased by the State of Illinois.

Today the park boasts several campsites and over eight miles of hiking trails. The park is also home to wild critters such as raccoons, squirrels, wild turkeys, chickadees, owls, woodpeckers, deer, foxes, and many others. Please treat their home with respect. Come on out and explore!
