Ryerson Conservation Area
Welcome to the beautiful Ryerson Conservation Area located in Riverwoods, Illinios. Records indicate that the first white settler of Lake County, Captain Daniel Right, owned a small portion of this preserve at one time. In the roaring 1920's several families purchased the land including the Ryerson Family. The Ryerson's built their summer retreat here, the Brushwood Farm, which bred Arabian horses. In 1966 the family generously donated this land to Lake County for conservation purposes. Today this land helps protect the habitat of threatened species including Cooper's Hawks and dog violets. The human visitor can enjoy hiking and skiing on the preserve's multipurpose trails. Come on out and explore.
