Welcome to the second oldest Forest Preserve in Will County, the Hammel Woods Forest Preserve, with the first purchase of land made in 1930. The preserve was named in honor of the World War I Veterans who fought in Hammel France, not for the Star Wars actor Mark Hammel (RecPlanet Joke).

The preserve offers miles of multi-purpose trails for the visitor to enjoy as well as terrific views of the DuPage River. Hikers and bikers venture here in the spring, summer and fall as well as skiers in the wintertime. Canoeists and kayakers can launch here for a two hour trip to the McKinley Woods Forest Preserve over in Channahon. The preserve offers numerous recreational opportunities not just for humans but for dogs as wel. Come on out and explore.

This was RecPlanet place of the day on May 4, 2018 for Star Wars Day.
