Hidden Springs State Forest
Welcome to Hidden Springs State Forest located near Stratsburg, Illinois.
Forest History: The forest was named for the seven known springs located within it's boundaries that were used for drinking water by the region's early settlers. The state initially had plans for this land to be used as a State Lake but those plans were scrapped when they started to build the Shelbyville Reservoir. The land was then transferred to the Division of Forestry and became a State Forest in 1960. To this day the land is used sustainable timber harvesting, conservation, and recreation. Some of the trees growing in this forest include oaks, sugar maples, ashes, hockories, sycamores, silver maples, and many others.
For the lover of the outdoors this forest has over four miles of hiking trails, five fishing ponds, and campsites available upon reservation. Come on out and explore.
