Welcome to Salamonie River State Forest in Andrews, Indiana!

Forest History: The name Salamonie comes from a Native American "O-sah-mo-nee" which translates to "yellow paint." The region's tribes used the forest's bloodroot plant to make yellow paint. In the 1930's, when the nation was suffering through The Great Depression, the State of Indiana established Salamonie River State Forest in order to help restore lands damaged by erosion. The Civilian Conservation Corps helped out a lot with the reforestation.

Wildlife: Salamonie River State Forest helps protect the home of numerous wild critters including deer, squirrels, and raccoons. Please treat their home with respect.

For the lover of the outdoors this forest boasts over 12 miles of trails, waters stocked with fish (including bass, walleye, bluegill, and catfish), 36 campsites, and much more. Come on out and explore!
