Flint Hills National Wildlife Refuge
Welcome to the Flint Hills National Wildlife Refuge, a tallgrass prairie nestled in the Neosho River Valley of Kansas.
Refuge History: Flint Hills National Wildlife Refuge was established by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in 1966 in order to help control area flooding. The word Neosho is an Osage term that means "Clear and abundant water." Some of the first human inhabitants of this region arrived over 10,000 years ago.
Wildlife: Flint Hills National Wildlife Refuge helps protect the home of numerous wild critters including bobcats, deer, geese, wild turkeys, and bald eagles. Please treat their home with respect.
