Manistee National Forest
Welcome to Michigan's beautiful Manistee National Forest located in the western part of the lower peninsula.
Forest History: In 1938 the Manistee National Forest was established. It's name comes from a Native American term meaning "the whispering through the pines." The forest came into existence as a result of the Great Depression which took it's toll on local farms and over-logged forests. The Civilian Conservation Corps helped to restore the forest and build many of it's amenities. Wildlife: The Manistee National Forest helps protect the home of numerous wild critters including deer, bears, wolverines, squirrels, moose, foxes, and many others. Please treat their home with respect.
For the lover of the outdoors this forest boasts miles of multipurpose trails, so many lakes, and much more. Come on out and explore.
