Carley State Park
Welcome to Carley State Park located in southeast Minnesota near Altura.
Park History: The area in and surrounding Carley State Park is the remains of an ancient sea that covered North America over 450 million years ago. In 1948, State Senator James Carley donated land to the state of Minnesota that became Carley State Park. The park offers magnificent hikes along the Whitewater River which got it's name from the Dakota Indians when the high waters eroded the light colored clay of the valley floor.
Flora and Fauna: Carley State Park helps protect the home of numerous plant and animals species. Some of the plants that grow inside the park's boundaries include pines, oaks, and numerous wildflowers. Some of the wild animals who call this place home include foxes, coyotes, deer, beavers, woodpeckers, owls, and many others. Please treat their home with respect.
For the lover of the outdoors Carley State Park boasts over 5 miles of trails, 20 campsites, and so much more. Come on out and have fun.
