Welcome to Minnesota's Judge C.R. Magney State Park! Home of the famous and spectacular Devil's Kettle Waterfall. In 1934 during the Great Depression the State of Minnesota built a transient work camp in what is now Judge C.R. Magney State Park to help people who had lost their jobs. The men at the camp helped build trails, saw down trees for timber, and started a fire that burned over 10,000 acres of forest. In 1957, a 940 acre portion of the camp along the Brule River was set aside as a state park. At the time it was called Brule River State Park. In 1963 the park was re-named in memory of Judge C.R. Magney, a prominent Minnesota Lawyer and Supreme Court Justice who was a strong advocate for the state park system. Like much of the Minnesota Landscape, the parks bedrock was formed by volcanic activity dating back more than 1.1 billion years. Today the park offers numerous recreational opportunities and habitat for bears, deer, moose, wolves, and other species.
